Other teachers regularly ask me how I'm able to incorporate so many collaborative, high-energy activities into my classroom and lesson plans, so when I was approached about writing a book, I knew exactly what to write about!
I really wanted to create a resource with practical ideas and methods to help other teachers create collaborative environments in their classrooms and to help students flourish both in and outside of the classroom. The book's overarching focus is how to build communities as a teacher - i.e., with other educators, students, students' families, and with students' personal learning networks.
When my siblings and I were growing up, my parents always told us to 'be the flame’. They consistenly encouraged us to show leadership and have a positive impact on those we come into contact with.
In the world of education, teacher flames are people who strive to put relationships first because they know they are the foundation to all the work we do. They ensure that all students feel included, seen, and safe by the teacher and by their peers. They create an environment where everyone can thrive. Everyone can be the flame, and whether you’re a teacher or not, we can all work to kindle strong relationships with others and to have a positive impact.
This reusable bundle can be used for so many tasks while limiting the waste you create! Plan ahead for materials you need to prep, copies to make, assignments to grade, and lesson plans for each day with the Reusable Weekly Planner. Use reusable stickers to organize your days and keep track of on-going to-do's with the Reusable To Do List and Sticky Notes. Practice being intentional with relationship-building activities (Be the Flame Action-Item) and scheduling in something to keep your flame ablaze (Reignite Your Flame)!
This bundle is near to my heart because relational work is intentional. It doesn’t just happen – we have to plan for it. As an educator, I love being able to plan my week at a glance andintentionally think about what community-building practice I am going to work into my schedule each day. When planning ahead becomes a part of your weekly routine, it quickly becomes habit!
